What is the Purpose of Brake Fluid?

Brake fluid, which is sometimes called hydraulic fluid, works to help your vehicle's braking system function properly. It runs through the brake lines and needs to be drained and changed on a routine basis to keep your brakes in good shape. When a vehicle doesn't have adequate brake fluid, the car won't be able to stop when pressure is applied to the brakes. Learn more about brake fluid by reading our content below.

Brake fluid is made with silicone or glycol. If you have a vehicle with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), it will probably use a glycol-based brake fluid. Silicone-based brake fluids are typically best for vehicles that don't have ABS technology. You can reference your owner's manual to see how often your vehicle's brake fluid needs to be changed, or you can speak with one of our knowledgable service technicians to find out how often it should be changed.

Be sure to contact our service center at First Choice Honda the next time your vehicle needs a brake fluid change or other services.
